Welcome to The Stone and The pitcher Webinar replay
In this age of cultural enlightenment and employee empowerment, it is sometimes possible to forget who is truly in charge. Miguel de Cervantes, speaking through his fictional character, Don Quixote, was not so confused. As he reminded Sancho Panza, “Whether the stone hits the pitcher or the pitcher hits the stone it's going to be bad for the pitcher."
It is both normal and natural for a manager to face occasional push back and resistance from a headstrong direct report. It is, however, critical to remember that an employment relationship is not a democracy. Managers and direct reports are not in an even contest. The latter does not get to opt out of coaching. The former cannot permit a stalemate of indecision.
In this webinar we will explore the fine line between caring and asserting. When does empathy go too far? When is it time to remind the pitcher of the stone?
